DEG together with other lenders have provided a loan facility to Meghna Sugar Refinery Limited, Meghna Ghat, Sonargaon, Narayangonj, Bangladesh (MSRL). Coastal and Environmental Services Pty Ltd has been appointed as the Lenders environmental and social (“E&S”) advisor (LESA). The primary responsibility of the LESA will be to monitor compliance of MSRL with the obligations as described in the Lenders’ Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) dated 3rd December 2018. In addition, the LESA will advise the Lenders on other E&S-related performance issues observed during the E&S monitoring events.
In terms of the contract between the Company and DEG, this Assignment shall be carried out over a period of 24 months from December 2018 to April 2021. However, the scope of this current contract between the Company and the Sub-Consultant will be limited to E&S monitoring events during 2018 and 2019 only. Depending on the nature of instruction from the DEG, this contract may be extended based on mutual agreement, in writing, between the Company and the SubConsultant. The first site visit and associated monitoring event will be completed in December 2018. During 2019 a total of five (5) monitoring events are planned (February, March, April, August and November). The exact timing of these monitoring events are subject to confirmation by DEG.
